War Attack Strategy
1. Watch Replays First
Look at bases near the ones you plan to attack. If any nearby bases have already been attacked, watch the replays. Pay special attention to what comes out of the clan castle, if anything. Chances are, you'll face something similar.
2. Don’t attack with an empty clan castle.
There are often high level players who will give you excellent troops to use in your attack. If no one is on, wait till the evening USA time. Kevin often has hogs and dragons available (hogs take up 5 spots in the clan castle, dragons 20 - don’t ask for it if you don’t have room for it). If you ask for what you want, we can often make it for you while you wait, but be aware that it does take time. If you don't know what to ask for, just say, "For war."
3. Don't attack too high or too low.
We don't like to lose wars. We don't get loot when we loose wars. So it is very important that you get your stars. So don't attack too high. It is important, but less important, that you not attack too low. Here's a good rule of thumb: find your number in the war line up. Don't attack above it. Find the base half way between your base and the very bottom. Don't attack below it. You can get the bottom of your range by averaging your rank and the number of people on each team: MyRank + NumberPerTeam / 2
4. Check the corners
There is nothing worse than coming very close to 3 stars but getting stuck at 2 because you didn't get to that builder hut in the corner before time ran out. When you scout the village make note of any pesky corner buildings. Drop a single barbarian near corner buildings early so they have time to take them out.
5. Draw out their troops.
It is hard to fight against clan castle troops when you are in among their buildings. Your units will do silly things like attack buildings instead of the guy attacking them, meanwhile, they are getting shot at by cannons and such. So, first thing, drop a barbarian near their clan castle. Wait till the troops come out and kill the barbarian (if no troops come out, you're lucky. Continue with your attack). Then drop a barbarian far from everything (by a corner building if there is one). Repeat if necessary. When the enemy troops are out in the middle of nowhere surround them with archers or minions or something. Don't drop a bunch of troops by them in the same place if they have wizards, valkyries or other troops that deal splash damage - literally make a circle (or semicircle) around them. Drop more troops in the spaces that open up in the circle if they are tough.
This isn't a perfect example (archers are used instead of barbarians, and several are put down at once at the beginning), but it gives the idea:

6. Relax
We like to win, but we all loose sometimes. Don't beat yourself up if you don't bring home the stars. Learn from your mistakes and move on.
